About Bishop and his Beer Blog

Enjoying and Afternoon at the Humble, TX Beer Fest

I am a part-time home brewer. That’s me in the blue shirt. I started out brewing kit beers with extract. They are relatively easy to brew. Even though they lack the complexity of beers made by all grain brewing, the extract kits are still so much better than the yellow fizzy water consumed by so many. I now do partial grain beers, a mix of extract and specialty grains to brew a better beer. I have experimented with a variety of hops and love the creative opportunities available to home brewers.

I have been adding a few reviews of local beers encountered in my travels and having some fun doing it!!!!

I have been hit or miss with my posts but will commit to at least two posts per month. I will share some recipes and share some learning’s….yes I have made a few mistakes. I blame my recent gaffes on my wife’ cats.

Hoist one for me!

Bishop, what a fantastic idea for a blog! My husband has wanted to brew his own beer forever. Maybe I’ll get him one of these kits for Christmas! Sounds like a lot of fun to make. Thanks for Visiting my blog. The other day your comment about your zero waste shake and putting the Foam in the compost made me smile. That was definitely a zero waste food! Hail to the compost! Keep up the good work and the homebrewing, I’m looking for to hearing more!

Thanks for the feedback. I am nearly 100% at getting the compostable or that which the worms can stomach into the appropriate bins. My wife however is less diligent. The start was about 1998 – I had a big compost bin in Midland TX. When I was looking I would scoop up potato peelings before she sent them down the disposal. She promised me that she would always save them for me……I found out the truth soon after…..the disposal side of the sink had backed up….it was jammed full of potato peelings with the starchiness binding them solid. Now she promised again but several months later guess what I pulled apart again? Yes the disposal! I am certain now that she sends no peelings down the disposal….less certain about making the trip to the bins!

  2. I’d like to invite you to participate in a new challenge that I am hosting at thewanderinggourmand.com to bring together the beer, wine, and food blogging worlds. As you may know, each month I host a Beer Versus Wine Pairing Challenge inviting readers to suggestion their perfect pairing with a monthly dish. I decided to make the challenge even more engaging by turning the challenge into a contest with bragging rights. Each month a dish will be presented. Bloggers have a week to post their perfect pairing and why in the comments section. The following week, I will summarize the comments in a post for a vote. The winner not only earns bragging rights but also the honor of coming up with the following month’s dish.

Right now the contest will be hosted at thewanderinggourmand.com. Future plans involve a breakout sight and a badge to post back on your blog. I welcome you to join the challenge as it begins today with Beer Battered Fish (http://thewanderinggourmand.com/2014/02/26/beer-battered-fish-pairing/).

    Salud!
